Boost Your Fall Skincare Routine

Boost Your Fall Skincare Routine

Is it that time of year already? There’s a chill in the air, a reminder that our summer months might be limited. And I’m sure the question on everyone’s mind still stands: how will I prepare my skin for the dry, cold weather ahead?

Have no fear. Your summer skincare routine only needs a few minor adjustments to protect, replenish, and preserve that glowup that you’ve worked so hard to maintain. So let’s waste no time and dive right into what you should be doing to prepare your skin for this autumn.

Make the Switch to Hydrating Products

Let’s face it. Unless you live in a place that’s warm all year-round, there’s a good chance that the chilly, fall air is going to wreak havoc on your skin. What does this mean for your current skincare products? Well, it’s time to assess the arsenal and whip out the heavy hitters as far as moisturization goes. Keeping your skin hydrated will counteract the cold, dry air and prevent cracking, flaking, and rough skin textures.

I recommend using a hydrating hyaluronic acid serum that boosts moisture retention and anti-aging properties. (Did I mention Gin Amber Beauty carries this serum as well?) Always feel free to select the brand that’s best for you and make sure to research product ingredients to ensure you’re not putting fragrance or harsh chemicals on your skin.

Minimize Temperature Fluctuation

Going from a hot shower to the cold outdoors, then into a warm coffee shop, and back out again is doing your skin no favors. In fact, consistent temperature fluctuation is going to hinder your skin’s ability to maintain its natural oils and keep your skin in tip-top shape. Not to mention the dryness. Translation? There’s a good chance you’re going to have a breakout.

Try going for cooler showers in the fall, but if you really can’t stand living without the warmth and steam, try covering your face prior to going out with either a scarf or protective layers. Apply moisturizing, topical products and do your best to protect your face from harsh winds.

Drink Water – And Lots of It

This is an often-overlooked step in fall skincare. During winter, we intake less water, which means our skin isn’t getting the moisture it deserves. Drinking adequate amounts of water helps to prevent excess oil and sebum secretion, which means less clogged pores and reduced chances of developing acne.

Remember, water clears the body of toxins, so make sure you’re treating yourself to proper hydration, inside and out.

Enhance Your Nighttime Skincare Routine

If you enjoy the great outdoors, there’s really no way around exposing your skin to cold temperatures. So, allow your skin to rejuvenate overnight with masks, creams, or serums before bed that will penetrate and work their magic while you sleep. This will aid in recovery, heal cracks in your skin, and allow you to wake up with softer, more refreshed skin.

Try microneedling, hydrating superfood masks, and even nighttime facial massaging tools like jade rollers to increase circulation.

Boost, Booster, Boosted

Skincare boosters! These are a no-brainer for your fall skincare regimen. Some boosters, such as Gin Amber Beauty’s Vitamin C Booster, maintain glow, plumpness, and smooth, youthful appearances. Give your skin the extra edge it needs to endure the colder months and boost, boost, boost!

Lastly, Vitamin C is a powerhouse for your skin, so look for ways to incorporate more Vitamin C into your diet as well. More information on the benefits of Vitamin C can also be found in this helpful article

Ex-fall-iate

Did you know fall is the best time to exfoliate? Invest in high-quality exfoliation products and cleansers, such as Gin Amber Beauty’s Natural AHA/BHA exfoliating cleanser, and remember that less is more. Limit exfoliation to once or twice per week to remove dead skin cells and allow your face to maintain its natural sebum secretion. We don’t want to be tampering with our body’s natural cycles.

That’s a Wrap!

There are numerous ways to prepare your skin for fall and winter and if you've made it this far, you're already two steps ahead of the rest. By following the tips above, you'll be sure to ensure, youthful, glowing, and incredibly soft skin year-round. Protect your skin! It's the only skin you get.
