How To Get Rid Of Neck Wrinkles At Home

Can we talk about the most neglected part of nearly everyone’s skincare routine? The neck.

And I get it, we’re busy. We’re washing our face, applying our serums, trying to remember sunscreen, juggling work, kids, life… and the neck is usually an afterthought. If it gets anything at all, it’s whatever is left on our hands after we apply moisturizer to our face.

But here’s what happens: you can have the most beautiful skincare routine in the world, and your face can look fresh and glowy… and then your neck tells a different story.

Because the neck ages faster than people expect. The skin is thinner, it’s constantly moving, and it often gets more sun exposure than we realize, especially if you’re doing SPF on your face but stopping at the jawline (which is way more common than anyone wants to admit).

And then one day you look in the mirror and notice:

  • horizontal lines that weren’t there before
  • crepey texture
  • a loose or “thin” look under the chin
  • Or just a neck that looks tired even when your face looks great

That’s usually when people start panicking and throwing everything at it. Harsh exfoliants, random creams, and aggressive treatments, but the neck doesn’t respond well to chaos. It responds to consistency and gentle support.

That’s why I take neck care seriously, and one of my favorite at-home tools for it is microneedling.

Now, before we go any further: I’m going to show you exactly how I do it at home, safely and sanely. No aggressive rolling. No scary pressure. Just a consistent method that supports your skin long-term.

How to use a Dermaroller on your Neck?

Microneedling is one of those things that sounds intense… but when you do it correctly, it’s actually very controlled and very effective for improving the look of texture and lines over time.

I use it because it helps encourage the skin’s natural renewal process, and when you pair that with the right aftercare, your neck starts looking smoother and healthier. Not “fake tight," nor something that will only last you a few months, plus no toxins involved!

I use a 0.5mm Dermaroller with a replaceable head with real individual needles (learn more about the importance of using real dermarollers HERE). If you’re going to microneedle at home, please don’t cut corners on the tool. This is one of those times where quality matters.

Step 1 - Disinfect the Skin and Dermaroller

I start with completely clean skin. Microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin, so you want your surface clean and calm before you start.

Instead of wiping my skin down with alcohol (which can be harsh and drying), I use Natural Foam Cleanser, which uses liquid oxygen to disinfect the area. I apply it across my neck — and yes, I also do the back of my neck, so I disinfect that too.

Step 2 - How to Roll on the Neck

I usually start right in the center of my neck — basically around the Adam’s apple area — and I work in sections.

You’ll hear people say, “Always roll upward.” And yes, in theory, that’s ideal.

But in real life, the neck can be awkward — you’ve got the collarbone area, the curve of the neck, and you’re trying to stay controlled. Sometimes rolling downward is simply easier and more comfortable.

So here’s what I care about most:

  • controlled rolling
  • light pressure
  • being consistent in each area

I do around 10 passes per section, and my pressure is about the same as shaving your legs — not hard, not aggressive. You’re not trying to “dig in.” You’re trying to stimulate the skin.

Most people never think to do this, but I do microneedle the back of my neck as well.

If you can reach comfortably and stay controlled, it’s a great area to include. If you can’t reach well or you’re twisting in a way that makes you sloppy — skip it. It’s not worth irritating the skin.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have thyroid issues, autoimmune concerns, or anything medical happening around your neck area, I recommend you talk to your dermatologist or provider before doing this.

After I’m done, I disinfect my roller by pumping foam oxygen into the container until it fills, letting it soak, then rinsing it with filtered water and allowing it to dry completely before I close it back up.

The goal is simple:

  • disinfect thoroughly
  • don’t store it wet
  • don’t reuse it if it’s questionable
  • never share it with anyone

Microneedling is not the place to be casual about hygiene.

Step 3 - Aftercare

Right after rolling, I apply products that are made with microneedling in mind. The best is the Vitamin C  + Squalane Repair Cream, which not only moisturizes the skin, but also brightens, is anti-aging, and boosts the benefits of microneedling.

This is important: after microneedling, your skin absorbs products more easily. So what you apply needs to be gentle, supportive, and worth absorbing.

Vitamin C is one of my non-negotiables, especially after 25, because it helps support brighter-looking skin and overall resilience over time. And squalane is beautiful for barrier support. It gives the skin that soft, nourished feel without heaviness. Supportive, consistent, and not overcomplicated.

What to Avoid After Microneedling:

  • working out for 24 hours (sweat can sting and irritate)
  • saunas
  • direct sun exposure, especially the first 24 hours
  • scrubs, exfoliation, microdermabrasion for a few days
  • microneedling right before a beach trip (give yourself at least 3 days)

If you want your skin to improve, you have to treat it like it’s healing — not like it’s ready for a full assault of “anti-aging everything.”

It’s normal to have mild redness, tingling, and a slight “sunburn-ish” sensation. What I don’t want you to ignore: intense burning, swelling, rash-like reactions, or anything that feels alarming. If that happens, stop and reassess your technique and your products.

And if you’re new, don’t jump into weekly microneedling.

  • start every 2–4 weeks
  • once you tolerate it well, you can move to twice a month
  • long-term maintenance can be monthly

Consistency beats intensity every time.
